Ministerrådet har inlett en procedur för att lägga fram ett lagförslag om att försvaga kryptering i EU. Österrikisk media har läckt dokumentet, som är väldigt vagt formulerat, men verkar följa trenden i årets angrepp på kryptering. Målbilden verkar vara att företag som levererar kommunikationstjänster måste kunna läsa alla meddelanden, vilket alltså inneburit ett de facto förbud mot effektiv end-to-end-kryptering.
Att förslaget kommer precis efter ett par uppmärksammade terrordåd är ingen slump. Det är typiskt våra europeiska stater att utnyttja terrordåd – som inte kunnat förhindras genom massövervakning – för att driva igenom övervakningslagar.
